GARDENA — The Greater Los Angeles JACL presents “Let’s Dance,” a scholarship and chapter fundraiser, on Saturday, July 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162ndSt., Gardena.
The mini-dinner/dance will feature live music and DJ by Asian Persuasion; line dancing led by Toru Nagao; a raffle drawing; and a silent auction.
Asian Persuasion is a vocal harmony group that sings favorite doo-wop, Motown, and pop songs of the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. Kenny Itagaki and Gary Asamura started the group over 40 years ago with Helen Ota, Marlene Yamane Chau, and Jeff Louie completing the group today.
The silent auction will feature creations by local artists Robert Tamura, Noe Yamabe, Alvin Takamori, Eileen Oda Leaf, Kimie Joe, Jennifer Chan, Jaimee Itagaki and Trace Fukuhara, plus plant basket arrangement and gift card donated by Sunflower Farms in Gardena.
The cost is $35 for dinner/dance and $25 for dance only by July 20; $35 at the door. Table of eight (advance only) is $280 for dinner/dance, $200 for dance only.
